Stating that resolutions passed to purchase stickers at high cost would pave way for corruption, DMK councillor demand holding of the two resolutions passed during the council meeting held here recently.
In a petition submitted to Mayor S. Soundappan during the grievances day redressal meeting, DMK leader of the house M. Bhuvaneswari said that resolution number 8 and 9 intend to purchase gadgets for solid waste management works in all the 60 wards in the Corporation limits at a cost of Rs. 9.80 lakh and Rs. 9.95 lakh respectively.
She said that the Corporation is carrying out works only in 39 wards while a private company is vested with the responsibility in the remaining 21 wards.
She questioned why the Corporation should purchase gadgets for the private company.
Also, resolution number 12 and 13 paves way for purchasing 1 lakh stickers each at a cost of Rs. 12.70 for creating awareness on solid waste management on anti-dengue measures.
As many as 50,000 stickers were meant to be distributed to the public to create awareness on the need for segregating the waste and also called for not throwing the municipal waste on the roads. Another 50,000 stickers would create awareness about dengue and its preventive methods.
The total cost comes to Rs. 6.35 lakh for 50,000 stickers and not Rs. 6.37 lakh as mentioned in the resolution.
