Police protection for her to be decided by trial court

The Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Principal Sessions Judge, Puducherry, before whom trial of the Sankararaman murder case is pending, to dispose of expeditiously two representations filed by the victim's wife this month.

Disposing of a writ petition by S.Padma , Justice S.Nagamuthu said the question of giving police protection to her would be decided by the trial court. Following a submission by her counsel, Mr.Justice Nagamuthu said the Kancheepuram district police should ensure her safety when she appeared before the trial court.

The Judge said the petitioner was examined in the case long before. She has now filed two petitions before the trial court with certain papers. She had made several allegations touching upon the merits of the murder case. The Deputy Superintendent of Police had denied them. Mr.Justice Nagamuthu said the High Court could not go into the correctness or otherwise of the allegations. The petitioner had also sought police protection to her and her family members. It was for the trial court to dispose of the petitions after affording sufficient opportunity to both parties

After the order was pronounced, counsel said the petitioner's safety may be ensured when she appeared before the trial court. The Judge said the police should ensure her safety when she appeared before the court.
