The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has placed the Director of National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi (NIT-T), M. Chidambaram, under suspension.
The order was issued at a meeting chaired by the Chairman of the Board of Governors, NIT-T, R. Seshasayee, in Chennai on Wednesday, official sources said.
The order, referring to an MHRD letter dated September 7, 2010, stated that the NIT-T Director had been placed under suspension with immediate effect, pending initiation of regular departmental action.
Dr. Chidambaram has been asked to report immediately at Indian Institute of Technology – Chennai, his parent institution.
His tenure was to end on October 25.
A source in the Board said the charges against Dr. Chidambaram pertained to “financial misappropriation and insubordination.”
V. Sivan, Professor of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, has taken over as Director In-Charge as directed by the Ministry, official sources said.
Dr. Chidambaram, when contacted, said he had not reported to IIT-Chennai since he had not been given an opportunity by the Ministry to reply to charges raised by the Governing Board.
