Differently-abled sports performers lauded for their performance

Awards also handed over for efforts taken to sustain growth of saplings

Differently abled children of the special school run by Sakthidevi Trust who had performed well in sports activities were honoured with prizes recently.

Project Director of District Rural Development Agency K. Sumathi who handed over the prizes to the children also honoured the team behind the ‘Vazhikatti Thittam’, another scheme of the Trust, a unit of Sakthi Masala.

Assistance

Earlier, the 15th edition of Aimperum Vizha that witnessed disbursal of monetary assistance worth several lakhs of rupees to socio-economically disadvantaged students was initiated by the Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, J. Radhakrishnan.

Dr. Radhakrishnan handed over ‘Tree Protector’ awards to individuals and organisations in recognition of their effort to sustain the growth of the saplings they had planted, under the Trust’s Thalir Thittam.

About 313 students of government schools who had excelled in SSLC and Plus Two public examinations received educational assistance totalling Rs 5,46,500.

As many as 469 students from economically poor families pursuing higher education were given Rs. 17,13,000.

Former Lions Club District Governor N. Muthusamy presented Lifetime Achievement Award for educational service to the Vice-President of Bharathi Vidya Bhavan Aruna Ramakrishnan.

Beneficiaries

Other beneficiaries of the monetary assistance comprised the Imayam Trust run by Indian Medical Association (Rs. 3 lakh), Thai Vazhi Kalvi Koodam Library run at Thindivanam by P. Kalyani, Professor (Rs. 55,000 worth books and Rs. 50,000 for purchase of almirahs), Veeranampalayam Middle School in Perundurai Panchayat Union (Rs. 55,000 worth books and Rs. 36,350 worth computers, printers, and tables), V. Sukra Trust (Rs. 1 lakh towards learning expenditure for seven students undergoing TNPSC training), Periyavilamalai village in Perundurai PU (for construction of a public toilet), and construction of a Public Distribution System outlet at Olapalayam (Rs. 2.67 lakh).

These benefits were handed over by ‘Kalaimamani’ K. Gnanasambandan, Professor. Bharathi Vidya Bhavan Correspondent L.M. Ramakrishnan, Sakthi Masala Chairman P.C. Duraisamy, and Trust functionaries including Shanthi Duraisamy and Senthil Kumar Duraisamy took part.
