The State Lorry Owners’ Federation – Tamil Nadu has criticised regular increase in the price of diesel and has decided to stage demonstration in Chennai on February 7.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, M. R. Kumarasamy, president of the Federation, said that the oil companies had been increasing the price of diesel on daily basis and the price has gone up to ₹67 per litre. The steep hike in the diesel price has badly hit the lorry industry.
The Federation has been repeatedly demanding the government to take steps for bringing down the diesel price. He said that all the oil companies function under the Centre.
However, the Centre is adopting escaping tactics on the diesel price issue by squarely blaming the oil companies. In the last three months, the diesel price had gone up by ₹4 per litre. The price has been hiked 20 times in the last one month alone. Due to the abnormal hike, about 30% of the lorries are not being operated in the State.
If the Centre failed to concede their demand, the federation in consultation with the All India Motor Transport Congress will be forced to launched strike.
