Diabetes programme

Dia Aware, an awareness programme for school children, was conducted by Nalam Hospital in Theni on Saturday. The objective of the programme, organised to mark World Diabetes Day, was to create awareness of diabetes among children.

A symposium on Type I diabetes was also held for children and their parents on the occasion. Participants were exposed to ways to prevent or manage diabetes. They were told that encouraging healthy eating habits in young children was key to halting the rise of diabetes and obesity. Dietary modifications should form part of a triad, consisting of awareness and regular exercise, to prevent diabetes.
