Thousands of people from various districts witnessed the annual Appar Thirukkayilai Kaatchi at Ayyarappar Temple at Tiruvaiyaru near here on the occasion of Adi Ammavasai on Tuesday night.

Appar also known as Thirunavukkarasar desired to go to Thirukayilai to have a darshan of Lord Shiva. On the night of Adi Ammavasai, Appar had the divine vision of Thirukayilai Katchi at the famous Ayyarappar shrine in Tiruvaiyaru.

To commemorate the event, a similar ritual is being held at the temple’s Thenkayilayam Appar Sannathi every year. Devotees from Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Tiruchi district congregated in Tiruvaiyaru for the grand event for which the arrangements were made by the Dharmapuram Adheenam Kattalai Visarani Kumarasamy Thambiran and temple officials. Police made elaborate security arrangements and traffic regulations were put in place in Tiruvaiyaru for the benefit of the devotees.
