Dekal's plea to be relieved from service rejected

March 25, 2011 02:32 am | Updated November 17, 2021 03:29 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Health Department on Thursday rejected the request of Forensic Medicine specialist V. Dekal (who performed the autopsy on A. Raja's aide Sadiq Batcha) to be relieved from service.

The appointing authority, Director of Public Health, sent Dr. Dekal a notice, rejecting his request on two grounds – paucity of staff in the specialty; and that he had not provided sufficient notice.

Dr. Dekal submitted his request to be relieved on March 3, on the ground that he would like to contest the elections.

Dr. Dekal said he was not a permanent employee of the Health Department, and was only on contract (10 a 1 category) and could quit any time.

He said that he had only written to the government as election code required its clearance. Further, he said, he had communicated his decision to resign from government service in writing to officials.
