Defamation case against Vijayakant adjourned

Hearing on the defamation cases filed by the State government against DMDK leader Vijayakant, and two other party members, the Principal District and Sessions Judge here on Thursday adjourned the cases to April 1.

The two cases filed by A. Kuppusamy, Government pleader against Mr. Vijayakant P. Parthasarathy, DMDK MLA, and A. Jayakumar, senior speaker of the party, alleging that they had spoken in a denigrating manner against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her Government at separate meetings held at Thanjavur and Kabisthalam last year.

During the hearing on Thursday, Mr. Jayakumar appeared before the court while Mr. Parthasarathy failed to turn up. Mr. Parthasarathy’s counsel informed the court that he was unwell. R. Sethumadhavan, Principal District and Sessions Judge, posted the case for further hearing on April 1.

Earlier, Mr. Vijayakant got exemption from appearing in person in the case from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.
