J. Deepa, general secretary of MGR Amma Deepa Peravai and niece of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, has demanded a judicial inquiry into the death of her aunt.

In a statement, she said the release issued by Health Minister C. Vijaya Bhaskar had pointed to taking the consent of the family at every step of the treatment given to the former Chief Minister. Yet, not once has the family been named.

“My brother Deepak and I are her blood relatives and family. I was not even allowed to visit her when she was in the hospital. No one approached either of us for our consent. Who gave consent for the treatment that was given to her on December 5? Medical ethics demand that as family our signature should have been taken in the consent form. If Deepak had signed the document, then the government should release the document,” she said.
