Nilgiris Superintendent of Police Murali Rambha on Wednesday said the death of Jayalalithaa’s former driver C. Kanagaraj, the prime accused in her Kodanad estate murder-cum-dacoity case, has not affected the probe.

“Our teams are working very well. Our investigation is going on very well,” said Mr. Rambha after visiting Sayan at the private hospital in Coimbatore where he is undergoing treatment. The police have obtained scientific and circumstantial evidences in the case, he said.

Mr Rambha, who is heading the probe, said the investigation team was working round the clock covering all possible dimensions. He visited the hospital around 1 p.m. and spent over two hours speaking to Sayan, the second accused who suffered severe injury, and interacted with doctors.

Emerging from the hospital, Mr. Rambha told reporters, “Sayan is stable, conscious and slightly able to speak”, adding that his life is most important and it is inappropriate to quiz him now.

On April 29, Sayan was admitted to the private hospital here after his car met with an accident on Palakkad–Thrissur road killing his wife Vinupriya (30) and daughter Neethu (5).

Mr. Rambha visited the spot near Attur, where Kanagaraj was killed in a road accident.
