Dance your way to keep diabetes at bay

CMC conducts a self-composed dance competition on the theme ‘Diabetes and The Brain’

Around 150 students from seven schools and seven colleges took part in a dance competition organised by the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Christian Medical College (CMC).

As part of the World Diabetes Day, the department has been conducting a series of events from September 2015 to April 2016. This included cookery competition, quiz, essay writing competition, painting exhibition and poster contest.

On Saturday, a self-composed dance competition on the theme “Diabetes and The Brain” was conducted. The first prize was bagged by students of Katpadi Government Higher Secondary School (HSS) for performing a “villupattu” on diabetes prevention, diabetes and the brain. N.K.M HSS, Sainathapuram, came second, followed by Madras Matric HSS in third place, according to a press release.

Among colleges, Christian Medical College Asha Association won the first prize, followed by College of Nursing, CMC, in second and St. Johns College of Nursing in third places.

Nihal Thomas, Head of Department, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, CMC, spoke about the importance of dance as an important medium in modulating hormonal secretion, relaxing the body and making one physically fit.

Thomas V. Paul, professor, Head of Endocrinology unit-2 stressed that maintaining a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise was the key to reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

Collector R. Nanthagopal handed over the prizes to the winners of various competitions during the valedictory function.
