Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan has demanded a CBI probe into the ‘egg scam’ in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he said that when an egg went for Rs.3.18, the government paid Rs.4.50 apiece to a contractor for the school noon-meal scheme. The government should order a CBI investigation as crores of rupees in public money was going waste, he said.

In the last one year, 34 honour killings had occurred in many districts; the one at Usilampatti in Madurai district and another in Dindigul district were horrifying. The accused had gone scot-free, he said. The CPI(M) had been demanding a separate law to save the victims and punish the culprits.
