CPI (M) slams privatisation of education

July 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:19 am IST - DHARMAPURI:

Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan on Thursday hit out at the privatisation of education saying it only produced unemployed youth.

Addressing the State conference of the Democratic Youth Federation of India here, he said, privatisation of education from schools to colleges has led to closing down of government schools.

The CPI(M) leader said while the AIADMK had promised waiver of farm loans in its election manifesto, the loans were waived only for small and marginal farmers.

According to him, agriculture needed many more interventions.

“The government has only given a support price of Rs.1,500 per quintal for paddy. This was far below the M.S.Swaminathan Committee’s recommendation of Rs.2,500 per quintal,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said.

According to Mr. Ramakrishnan, both Congress and the BJP were proponents of liberalisation.

Opening up of sectors to 100 percent FDI will eventually cut into opportunities for local youth, he said.
