CPI demands resignation of Iqbal Singh

April 19, 2011 01:28 am | Updated September 27, 2016 01:17 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday demanded the resignation of Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh following allegations linking him to Hasan Ali Khan, who has been arrested for tax evasion.

Addressing reporters here, N. Kalainathan, State Secretary of the CPI, said that the view expressed by Mr. Singh that he would resign if asked by Congress president Sonia Gandhi was “not right,” and he should resign voluntarily as charges against him were of serious nature.

Apart from the issue of Mr. Singh aiding Hasan Ali in obtaining a passport, he said there were several other allegations against him pertaining to approval of land allotment for starting a medical college at Karaikal.
