The Karumathampatty police have arrested the correspondent of a special school for children with hearing and speech impairment in Tirupur and four of his employees based on a complaint by a staff member.

The police are on the lookout for another employee, who is missing.

The correspondent – K. Murugasamy (57) of Tirupur Deaf and Dumb School – has been slapped with charges of rape; misusing position of authority in children’s home to rape; rape women suffering from physical or mental disability; repeated sexual intercourse; and causing miscarriage without women’s consent. Murugasamy manages schools for special children in Veerapandi and Kothapalayam villages in Tirupur district, and Semmandampalayam village, Coimbatore.

Five others booked

The police have also slapped similar charges against Murugasamy’s employees M. Chitradevi (40), Rani alias Chinna Rani, Piramila, Revathy and Babu. The complainant, a 29-year-old woman from Tirupur, has told them that when she was a student of the school, Murugasamy had forced her to drink liquor and then raped her. On learning that she was pregnant, he, along with Chitradevi, Rani and Piramila, took her to a hospital in Pollachi and aborted the foetus. In doing so, they took the help of Revathy and Babu, she added.

In a separate complainant, G. Arun Gandhi, who is also a staff, had alleged that Murugasamy lured girls to his room and had sex with them. He was assisted by Chitradevi and Rani.
