Cooptex to improve sales: Minister

The Cooptex marketed handloom varieties worth more than ₹ 315 crore through its 195 showrooms functioning in the country during last year (2016-17) and has taken initiative for improving the performance in the current year, said O.S. Manian, State Handlooms Minister.

He was inaugurating the modernised Cooptex showroom in Namakkal town on Sunday.

Mr. Manian said that Cooptex showrooms in the country were functioning successfully for decades together playing a major role in the uplift of handloom workers by marketing the textiles manufactured by them through cooperative societies.

He said the State Government had accorded priority to the Handlooms Department for implementing various schemes for improving its sales. The department had taken initiatives for modernising its showrooms to attract more customers

Mr. Manian said that the showroom functioning in Namakkal town had been modernised at an outlay of ₹ 15 lakh. The showroom managed a sales turn over of ₹ 1.11 crore last year. The department had fixed a target of ₹ 2 crore for this show room during the current year.

He asked people to buy more handloom textiles and help handloom weavers, and the cooperative societies.

Mr. Manian handed over gold coins to the winners of the ‘Thanga mazhai parisu thittam’ implemented by the department to boost the sales of handloom varieties.

P. Thangamani, State Electricity Minister; V. Saroja, Social Welfare Minister; N. Venkatesh, Managing Director, Cooptex; and others participated in the function. M. Asia Mariam, District Collector, presided over the function.
