The District Election Office has set up a control room to receive complaints and forward them to concerned election officials for immediate action. The public may contact the control room over the toll free telephone number: 2460012 and give information or lodge complaints in rural as well as in urban areas, if any, for immediate action, according to Collector K. Nagarajan.
The control room will function round the clock till elections. He appealed to the public to pass information about poll code violations free of costs immediately. The election office had received 10.47 lakh ballot papers meant for panchayat president posts from the printing press in Madurai and 9.59 lakh ballot papers meant for panchayat ward members from the government press in Chennai. Distribution of forms and ballot papers to concerned village panchayat unions has already commenced. Required quantity of ballot papers would reach the specified destinations well in advance without fail, he assured.
Distribution of electronic voting machines to all municipalities also commenced simultaneously. (The State election office has plans to introduce EVMs for municipal elections.)
While Dindigul municipality has 150 polling stations, Palani has 59 stations, Oddancahtram 28 and Kodaikanal 27 polling stations. Two ballot units and one control unit and one set as reserve had been dispatched to each and every polling booth in four municipalities, said the Collector.
He was inspecting the dispatch of electronic voting machines to Dindigul, Palani, Kodaikanal and Oddanchatram municipalities for the local body polls on Monday evening.
The first phase of election will be held on October 17 for Dindigul and Palani municipalities and on October 19 for Oddanchatram and Kodaikanal municipalities. Service of ex-service men is needed for conducting local body polls scheduled on October 17 and 19.
Those interested to work for this election, may appear in person at 8 a.m. on October 15 at Armed Reserve Police grounds at Seelapadi, six km from Dindigul without fail.
Call letters had been sent to the ex-service men individually. Those who did not receive the call letters too may appear on the said date for selection, he added.
