Contests in view of ‘World Environment Day’

The District Science Centre has proposed to organise drawing and fancy dress competitions for schoolchildren in view of ‘World Environment Day’ to be celebrated for four days from June 5.

In a statement, District Science Officer K. Navaram Kumar said drawing competition will be conducted on June 5 in three categories viz. from 3rd to 5th standard between 10.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. (topic – bird by fingerprint), 6th to 8th standard between 11 a.m. and 12 noon (topic – animal by dry leaves) and 9th and 11th standard between 11.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. (topic – drawing on ‘Wildlife’).

The fancy dress competition on ‘Wild animal’ for Junior (3rd to 5th standard) and senior (6th to 8th standard) categories will be organised on June 7.

A school can send only one team, comprising maximum two participants, in each category.

On the last day of the celebrations to be held on June 9, A. Venkatesh, Chief Conservator of Forest, Kalakkad – Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, Tirunelveli, will speak on ‘Go wild for life’ at 10 a.m. The lecture will be followed by an awareness drama.

Interested students should register their names at District Science Centre through their school a day before the event.
