The Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam on Tuesday evening concluded constituency identification agreements with the Pattali Makkal Katchi, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Indian Union Muslim League.
At Anna Arivalayam here, DMK president and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, PMK founder S. Ramadoss and VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan signed the agreements.
8 reserved constituencies
The VCK was given 10 seats including eight reserved constituencies.
The constituencies allotted to the VCK are Sholinganallur, Cheyyur, Arakkonam, Ulundurpet, Kallakurichi, Thittakkudi, Kattumannarkoil, Sirkazhi, Harur and Uthangarai. Of these, Sholinganallur and Ulundurpet are general constituencies.
The PMK was given 30 constituencies, which are Tiruporur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Arcot, Polur, Jolarpet, Gingee, Mailam, Neyveli, Mettur, Omalur, Edappadi, Bhavani, Dharmapuri, Poompuhar, Dindigul, Alangudi, Maduravoyal, Anaikattu, Jayamkondan, Bargur, Velachery, Gummidipoondi, Bhuvanagiri, Kovilpatti, Tindivanam (SC), Sholavandan (SC), Vedaranyam, Paramathivelur and Palacode. This time, the PMK has been given a few constituencies in the south such as Dindigul and Sholavandan.
IUML getsHarbour seat
The IUML has been allotted Harbour, Vaniyambadi and Nagapattinam constituencies, said its State president Khader Mohideen, who signed the agreement. The IUML got three seats, even though it had parted with one of the three seats originally allotted to it to resolve the crisis in seat-sharing talks with the Congress.
“In recognition of our gesture of sacrificing one seat, the DMK leader has restored that seat to us,” Mr. Mohideen said.
