The Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Superintendent of the Central Prison at Vellore to consider permitting a meeting between Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convict V. Sriharan alias Murugan, who gave up his 13-day-long fast on Wednesday, and his niece Thenmozhi.

A Division Bench of Justices A. Selvam and N. Authinathan passed the order while disposing of a petition filed by Ms. Thenmozhi. The petitioner had sought an urgent interview with her uncle on the ground that his health had deteriorated ever since he decided to attain Nirvana by fasting unto death.
