Tension prevailed for a while when a group of Congress cadre staged a demonstration to protest against the display of flex board of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) preventing the view of Kamaraj statue in Ananda Paalam area in the city on Thursday.

The AIADMK cadres had displayed a big flex board explaining the achievements of the state government on one side of the statue.

The Congressmen pointed out that the banner prevented the sight of the statue and demanded its immediate removal. They threatened to remove the banner on their own, if the AIADMK men did not remove it.

The Congress cadre by Meganathan, president of the urban district unit, raised slogans against the AIADMK government. On receiving information, a police party rushed to the spot and pacified the Congress supporters.

The police assured to speak to the AIADMK party men to remove the banner, following which they dispersed.

Mr. Meganathan told reporters that the Congress cadre will remove the banner, if the same was not removed by this evening.

Police pickets have been posted in the area.
