The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK)-led alliance is confident of securing at least 218 seats in the coming elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly, AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa said here on Friday.

Responding to queries from reporters on an opinion poll that has predicted her party being returned to power securing 164 seats in the 234-member House, she said: “I am very happy about it. However, I am confident that we will secure not less than 218 seats.”

Hence, she said, “There is no question of hung assembly and the AIADMK will form the government on its own.”

To a question on Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M.Karunanidhi's observation that an “undeclared Emergency” was prevailing in the State because of the Election Commission's restrictions, Ms. Jayalalithaa said: “Mr. Karunanidhi's rule is the true Emergency.” Asked about the restrictions by the Election Commission, she said “after a long time, Election Commission is enforcing all its rules sincerely and firmly [to ensure free and fair poll].”
