Urging the State Government to solve the problems pertaining to the inter-seniority prevailing in their department, employees of Department of Commercial Taxes staged a demonstration at Palayamkottai on Monday.

They protesting employees of commercial tax said the Assistant Commercial Tax officers, who were being recruited through Group II examinations of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, were being treated with dignity while the Junior Assistants, Record Clerks, Office Assistants etc. were suffering from step-motherly treatment as they were being treated like ‘temporary workers’.

Those who reached the position of Assistant Commercial Tax Officer due to their experience and over 25 years of service had to work under the newly recruited officers through TNPSC’s Group II exam. Due to lack of experience, newly appointed Assistant Commercial Tax Officers and Joint Commercial Tax Officers could not achieve the revenue target fixed by the State Government.

“Even though the minister had promised in the Assembly on May 6, 2012 that this issue would be solved amicably, no step had been taken so far. Hence, we’ve planned to conduct a demonstration in front of our offices across Tamil Nadu continuously while our friends have started indefinite fast in Chennai,” said T. Suresh Jayaraj, Divisional President, Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Officials’ Association.
