With several complaints registered against a popular private farm involved in emu farming near Erode, authorities are monitoring commercial emu farms functioning in the district.
Police said hundreds of persons from other districts visited Perundurai near Erode yesterday and staged a demonstration before the Susi Emu Farm, whose owner besides seven others allegedly cheated a large number of people to the tune of crores of rupees by promising lucrative returns on investments in commercial rearing of the bird.
Based on complaints from investors, cases had been registered against them.
Meanwhile, five more such private commercial Emu farms located near the Susi Emu Farm Administrative office in Perundurai were found closed since yesterday afternoon.
But, so far no one has made any complaint against the five farms, officials said.
District Revenue Officer S Ganesh, who is investigating the investment and payment details of the Susi Emu Farm, said whereabouts of the farm’s Chairman and Managing Director M.S.Guru were not known.

It's very sad to hear about the way things have shaped up in the Emu Farming business. I was also skeptical about this model. I really empathise with the investors who've lost money and the birds who're suffering currently without any food. I came to know that the Police and Revenue Department have taken the Susi Emu farm in Perindurai under their custody. They have also taken few employees of Susi Emu farm into their custody, one of them known to me. They're absolutely innocent and had no idea about their MD - Mr.M.S.Guru's plans who is gone into hiding now. These innocent ones have not benefited in any manner, infact they've not even received their salaries for the last few months. The cops need to catch the real culprits and spare the innocent ones.
These farms are airing lucrative advts. on prominent tamil tv channels
and even well known cine artists were endorsing the advts. At least now
well known public figures should wake up and re-consider what
business/products that they are endorsing and the impact it has on our
public. Lessons to be learnt from Tendulkar on product endorsements.
Till then public please stop giving too much of importance to these
stars and unrealistic advertisements.
Such Ponzi schemes have been run openly and it is often the innocent who end up in penury. Going by the past (when teak farms and other scams) they wont get their money (if at all they get any) for atleast 10 years. I feel very sad for the people who have been robbed of their livelihoods as many sold their lands to pay into such schemes. The owner might get released on bail soon and no one can say when the judgement will be pronounced; The Government could have acted earlier and stopped this.
Here after please get an awarness about such a kind of businesses.
I am Raj kumar from Erode. I am a research scholar and my dad occupation was agriculture. My home is nearer to perundurai. my relatives also invested in that emu buisness but the emu farm dont purchase the eggs or anything from them. It is a buisness like finance without any interest. No one gives money without interest. But seeing this add differently think that its golden egg laying hen. Normally people give money. if you dont give that money for years what they do, they like to get their money without interest. So in the meantime they invest in another business and gain much money. People do what, they make sounds for two days and they forget. Even they filed a case its civil case only. So they dont fear at all.
