The AVC College of Engineering, Mannampandal, has received a grant of Rs. 25 lakh under the research promotion scheme (RPS) of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, for establishing and carrying out research activities in the research Department of Mechanical Engineering in the field of renewable energy.
The grant is released to create research ambience in the institutes by promoting research in engineering sciences and innovations in established and newer technologies having practical importance in the sphere of social development and knowledge development.
A release of the college issued here on Wednesday said that the grant had been released under major research scheme to conduct research in power generation from biomass gasification of garden waste with nano particles for three years.
The outcome of the research work was expected to increase the use of biomass gasification route to overcome the energy crisis with efficient technology demonstration.
S.Vijayaraj, professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering of the college, is the principal investigator and the grant had been sanctioned to him, the release added. The Department of Mechanical Engineering of the AVC College of Engineering had been recognised by the Anna University as its research centre.
The centre was at present doing various researches in the energy engineering such as the use of vegetable and night soil for biogas production, use of solar energy for power generation, and fluidised gasification.
The centre is running postgraduate programme in energy engineering which can provide several job opportunities in design, development, erection, commissioning, and maintenance of conventional and renewable energy power plants.
J. Manikandan, chairman-cum-secretary in-charge of AVC Educational Institutions, S. Sugumar, treasurer, and C. Loganathan, principal, felicitated Dr. Vijayaraj.
