The Mettupalayam-bound train of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) was stopped below Coonoor on Sunday owing to derailment of one of the coaches.

According to railway sources when the train with about 175 passengers, most of whom were tourists from various parts of India and abroad, was proceeding between Runney Mede and Hillgrove, the coach near the engine derailed.

Since the train was moving slowly it was stopped immediately.

Arrangements were made to send the passengers by buses to Mettupalayam.
