On the second day of their sit-in strike on Tuesday, students of Chikkiah Naicker College were reportedly engaged in talks and persuaded to withdraw their protest, for conversion of the institution into a Government arts and science college.

Joint Director of Collegiate Education G. Jegadeesan assured the students that the Directorate of Collegiate Education would convey their demand to the Higher Education Ministry.

The students also requested District Collector S. Prabakar to get them an appointment with the Higher Education Minister to discuss the issue. College sources said the protest was withdrawn in view of the examination schedule ahead.
