The Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a demonstration highlighting the civic issues in the district on Monday.

Town secretary Thangamani led the demonstration held in front of the municipal office. State committee member of the party M.Veerabadhran said roads in all 39 wards were in bad shape and needed urgent repairs. Drinking water was not clean. “A huge overhead tank constructed at Sandhaimedu on Chengam Road has not been put to use. Several residential areas along the road have not been getting proper drinking water for the last three months. Had the tank been put to use, the problem could have been avoided. Lavatories in the bus stand are not maintained properly and a sanitary complex constructed at the bus stand by the Tourism Department is yet to be inaugurated,” Mr.Veerabadhran said.

District committee member M. Tamil Selvi, town committee members Chandrasekaran, N. Venkatesan, R. Saravanan and K.Saravanan took part in the protest. The participants raised slogans urging the municipality to immediately address the issues.
