Describing as “highly condemnable” and “unacceptable” the killing of a 13-year old boy at a defence enclave in the city, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday said she would ensure that action would be taken against the security guard who was responsible for the “brutal act.” In a statement here, she said the Chief Secretary had written to the Army's General Officer Commanding of the region to hand over the security guard to the Tamil Nadu police.

She also ordered release of Rs.5 lakh to the family of the victim, Dilson, from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund. She said the security guard could have easily guessed that a 13-year old boy who tried to climb the tree at the Army quarters could not have been a terrorist.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said she immediately sent Agriculture Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan, Electricity Minister R. Viswanathan and Information Technology Minister R.B. Udayakumar to the Government General Hospital and the boy was given the best possible treatment.

“I am saddened by his death,” she said and appealed to the people to cooperate with the police and maintain law and order.
