With the arrival of m.v. Bunga Mas 11 at DP World Chennai on Thursday, the Malaysian International Shipping Company (MISC) has regularised its bi-weekly East India Service between Yangon-Chennai-Colombo.
The first vessel m.v. Bunga Mas 12 called on DP World Chennai on March 27 and so far had made three trips to Chennai. This is the second visit of Bunga Mas 11 from Colombo, the DP World Chennai officials told The Hindu .
As per schedule, these vessels will leave Yangon on Tuesdays and reach Chennai on Saturdays and Colombo on Mondays.
In the return direction, it will leave Colombo on Tuesdays, reach Chennai on Thursdays and depart for Yangon on Fridays.
700 TEUs capacity
According to the officials, m.v. Bunga Mas 11 and 12 will operate on Yangon–Chennai–Colombo–Chennai–Yangon route.
Two vessels of 700 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) capacity each have been deployed on this bi-weekly service. Crescent Shipping Agency (India) is the shipping agent for MISC in India.
Director and CEO of DP World Chennai Ennarasu Karunesan said “this new initiative would strengthen the trade links between India, Myanmar and Middle East. The launch of this service will establish a reliable and efficient service between India and Myanmar and MISC as one among the top shipping lines in the intra-Asia Region.”
The vessels will bring in pulses from Yangon for the Indian and Sri Lankan market and in the return direction it will carry general commodities from Chennai. Efforts are being made to export engineering products, said DP World officials.
