Chennai unit bags “Best Project” shield

The Chennai unit of the Central Organization for Railway Electrification (CORE) has been adjudged the best among the nine project units across the country for completing the electrification of the highest route kilometres in 2011-12 fiscal.

This is the second time in succession that the Chennai unit has been chosen as the best and was presented with a shield at the annual railway function held at Allahabad recently.

The Chief Project Manager of CORE Chennai project unit, R.P. Udayakumar, received the “Best Project” shield from the General Manager, CORE, Jagdev Kalia at Allahabad.

Mr. Udayakumar was also given an individual award for his meritorious service.

Out of the 804 route kilometres energised in the 2011-12 financial year across the country, the Chennai unit alone contributed 262 route kilometres which was the highest among the nine project units.

Beats its own record

The Chennai unit set a record by carrying out electrification of 222 route kilometres during the previous year and bagged the “Best Project” award. This unit has beaten its own record now, a release said.

Headquartered at Allahabad, the CORE executes railway electrification work across the country through its project units situated at Ambala, Lucknow, Kota, Secunderabad, Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, Gorakhpur, New Jalpaiguri and Hajipur.

Presently, electrification works were progressing in different States for 4,750 route kilometres.

In Tamil Nadu alone, 530 route kilometres were under electrification, the release added.
