The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) is likely to file charge sheet against M.S. Jaffar Sait, the suspended Additional Director General of Police, before a special court this week in connection with an alleged fraud in acquiring residential plots from the Tamil Nadu Housing Board. The charge sheet will cover a few others too.
On July 23, 2011, the case was registered against Mr. Sait, who was ADGP (Intelligence) under the previous regime of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and others based on a complaint lodged by A. Sankar, a former employee of the DVAC.
Sources in the DVAC said the investigation was completed in the case. Though there was delay in getting sanction for prosecuting the suspended officer, the DVAC went ahead based on a recent ruling of Supreme Court.
The allegation was that Mr. Sait had entered into a criminal conspiracy with some persons and got allotment of a THNB plot in Tiruvanmiyur here. He allegedly suppressed certain information to get the allotment and later entered into an agreement with Landmark Constructions for the development of the site.
The DVAC registered a case against Mr. Sait and others under the Indian Penal Code. Some provisions under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, were also invoked.
Last week, the charge sheet was filed before the Special Court for DVAC cases but due to certain technical formalities, it was returned. The charge sheet was likely to be laid in this week, added the court sources.
