A press meet called by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E.V.K.S. Elangovan turned chaotic on Wednesday following a confrontation between a TV channel reporter and Congress leaders.

When Mr. Elangovan, who has faced widespread protests for his remarks on a recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, began explaining his position on the issue, a journalist, reportedly belonging to a TV channel close to the ruling AIADMK, asked the Congress leader if he would have made the same comments if the meeting had involved women of his family.

Infuriated, Congress leaders charged towards the reporter, who was later taken away from the hall.

Continuing the press conference, Mr. Elangovan said his remarks on Jaya-Modi meeting were taken out of context. He said his criticism was on the fact that while national BJP leaders always heaped praise on Ms. Jayalalithaa, the State BJP leaders criticised her.
