The Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) police on Wednesday arrested six persons in connection with the wall collapse at a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at Ranipet SIDCO Industrial Estate on January 31. They were remanded on Thursday.

Ten workers were killed in the incident.

Police said that the six persons were members of the CETP monitoring committee – R. Ramesh (45), D. Pugalendhi, (45), Srinivasa Reddy (50), Saravana Karthik (35), D. Rajendran (45) and Chava Srinivasa Rao (48).

The committee was responsible for keeping track of the functioning of the CETP. A wall of a second Secure Landfill Facility (SLF) constructed “illegally” at the CETP had collapsed drowning the ten workers in toxic sludge.
