Centre exploiting rift in AIADMK: Mutharasan

‘State being deprived of its rights’

June 20, 2017 12:25 am | Updated 12:25 am IST - TIRUCHI

The Central government is exploiting the ‘power struggle’ within the AIADMK and depriving the rights of the State, Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary R. Mutharasan has alleged.

“As there is a power struggle within the ruling party, the government has not bothered to fight for the rights of the State. The Centre is exploiting the situation,” he said, addressing a press conference here.

He said that the State government was unable to fight for the rights of Tamil Nadu on various issues including sanction of drought relief, imposition of Hindi, constitution of the Cauvery Management Board, move to form a single tribunal to adjudicate upon inter-State water disputes and exemption from NEET.

The CPI would launch a State-wide week-long campaign to highlight these and other failures of the Central and State governments on June 29.

‘Bid to divide people’

Mr. Mutharasan alleged that the BJP was “attempting to divide people on communal lines” to cover up its failure in fulfilling its election promises.
