Puthiya Tamilagam party president K. Krishnasamy on Monday demanded a CBI inquiry into the death of MBBS aspirant A. Anitha of Ariyalur to check if there was any sort of instigation from others, after which she took the extreme step.

“An inquiry is needed to check whether she (Anitha) ended her life on her own or was instigated to do so or was driven to that extent by others or was murdered in a novel way,” Mr. Krishnasamy told mediapersons on Monday.

According to him, there is suspicion behind the death of Anitha who had told the media that she wanted to pursue a course in agriculture and serve the farmers after she could not secure an MBBS seat.

Mr. Krishnasamy further accused parties like the DMK and the CPI(M) of politicising the suicide of Anitha.

He also charged that the parties were keeping quiet when the Supreme Court ruled out exemption for the State from NEET.

Balabharathi’s charge

Former CPI (M) MLA Balabharathi came down strongly on Mr. Krishnasamy on Monday for his comments in favour of NEET, saying some years ago he had got an MBBS seat for his daughter with the help of the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. “There is nothing wrong in getting a seat for a Dalit student. But he (Krishnasamy) used one yardstick for his daughter and another for Anitha,” Ms. Balabharathi posted on her Facebook page.

Recalling an incident that took place in the Legislative Assembly, Ms. Balabharathi said when Dr. Krishnasamy was speaking, a Minister reminded him about Jayalalithaa’s generosity in allotting a seat to his daughter (under the Chief Minister’s quota).

“Immediately, Dr. Krishnasamy said he had not forgotten the gesture and still he was grateful to her. When he turned towards Jayalalithaa to wish, she turned her face away.

“The selfishness of Dr. Krishnasamy fell heavily on the Assembly table,” Ms. Balabharathi said.

She also denied reports that she had deleted the Facebook post.

“I will not remove the message even if the sky falls. Let Dr. Krishnasamy and the intelligence department lie low,” she said.
