Flood waters entered into 75 houses constructed on the banks of River Cauvery here and Bhavani areas on Monday due to discharge of water into the river from Mettur dam, official sources said.

The water level in the dam across river Cauvery has crossed the full reservoir level of 120 feet.

PWD sources said the water level touched 121 feet last night, the first time it has touched this level since 2005.

Already an alert was given by officials to those residing on the banks of the river and evacuated them to safer places.

Erode District Collector Dr. V.K. Shanmugam and senior Revenue Officials visited the areas of River Cauvery at Bhavani, Ammapet and Kodumudi.
