Responding to reports that a section of the police felt left out of her rewards package for those engaged in the arrest of terror suspects recently, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday announced cash rewards totalling over Rs.2.50 crore for more police personnel involved in these operations.
Besides 245 personnel, who will be given Rs.1 lakh each, Inspector T.Veerakumar in Periamet police station in Chennai, who aided in overpowering one of the suspects ‘Police’ Fakruddin is to get a cash reward of Rs.5 lakh. The 245 personnel are attached to Special Division, Special Investigation Division, Special Intelligence Cell (SIC) and Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Giving details, Ms.Jayalalithaa, in a statement, said Mr.Veerakumar rushed to the spot and assisted in apprehending the suspect who was trying to flee after attacking two Inspectors of Police Lakshmanan and Ravindran. Likewise, she announced Rs.5 lakh cash reward each to Special Division Head Constable M.Vijayperumal and Special Investigation Team Head Constable K.Mariappan, both of Madurai. The reward is for their efforts in bringing out two other terror suspects, Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik, besides women and children, from their hideout in Puttur, Andhra Pradesh. The two police personnel were part of the team that raided the hideout earlier this month.
A cash reward of Rs.2 lakh each was announced for woman constable Radhika of Periamet police station and Special Division Head Constables S.Ramamoorthy (Madurai) and P.Pandarinathan (Tirunelveli) for providing information and alerts about the suspects. The three suspects were allegedly behind several attacks on functionaries of the Sangh Parivar in the State and including placing of pipe bombs in the route of senior BJP leader L.K.Advani’s convoy during his visit to the State in 2011.
Ms.Jayalalithaa had already announced a cash reward and a one-step promotion to 21 police personnel involved in the Puthur operations.
