Cash, gold stolen

Unidentified persons gained entry into the residence of Balasubramanian of Eravipudur near Anjugramam, a retired official of a cooperative society in Kanyakumari district on Thursday midnight after breaking open the front door.

The culprits took away Rs. 6 lakh cash and 8.5 sovereigns of jewellery, Balasubramanian had kept in the almirah for the marriage of his daughter B. Kokila, after selling his properties recently. The thieves tried to snatch a chain from Balasubramanian’s wife B. Maheshwari, who woke up and raised an alarm.

The culprits escaped with their booty before the neighbours assembled near the house. Based on a complaint lodged by Mr. Balasubramanian, Anjugramam police registered a case and are investigating. Kanyakumari Deputy Superintendent of Police rushed to the spot along with Anjugramam Inspector. .
