Cases registered for poll code violations in Salem, Namakkal

A total of 32 model code of conduct violation cases were registered in all the 11 Assembly constituencies in Salem district.

The control room at Namakkal collectorate has so far received 137 complaints and action has been taken against 134 complaints

Speaking at a meeting of the representatives of various political parties here recently, Salem Collector and District Election Officer V. Sampath said that a total of Rs. 93.76 lakh cash has been seized by the personnel of flying squad and static surveillance team during vehicle check in the 11 constituencies so far.

Of this, Rs. 37.19 lakh has been returned back to the owners after the production of relevant documents.

He said a special team has been formed to scrutinise the relevant documents from the people from whom cash and gift items were seized and ordered the return of the same. Mr. Sampath said that the election control room at the collectorate so far solved 245 petitions.

It also solved 155 petitions seeking permission for holding meetings.

Referring to the complaints on violation of model code of conduct, he said 32 cases have been registered against different political parties and individuals.

R. Sugumar, DRO and Additional District Election Officer, J. Megnath Reddy, sub-collector, Mettur, K.R. Selvaraj, Corporation Commissioner and other officials participated.

Namakkal Collector and District Election Officer V. Dakshinamoorthy and said that the toll free number 1800-425-7021 is functioning round-the-clock to receive election-related complaints from the public and political parties. The control room has so far received 137 complaints and action has been taken against 134 complaints.

Action is being taken against three complaints, he added.

Unaccoounted cash

The flying squad has so far seized Rs. 69.82 lakh unaccounted money from the public, traders and businessmen in the district. After producing relevant documents, officials so far returned Rs. 58.75 lakh to them.
