The police on Wednesday registered cases under four different sections against 40 persons belonging to two rival groups of K. Pudupatti village, following Tuesday’s violent incidents.
Tension gripped the village on Tuesday after the villagers took objection to the entry of a group of seven persons, all accused in the murder of the village panchayat president Kumar on March 31, 2013.
The accused, along with their supporters armed with lethal weapons, threatened the local people.
Besides indulging in stone pelting, they also hurled a country bomb on a house. Three persons suffered injuries in the violence.
Based on the complaints of both the rival groups, the K. Pudupatti Police registered cases under Sections 147, 336, 506 (i) of IPC and Section 4 of Explosives Act against 40 persons of both the groups.
Heavy police pickets continue in the village.
