Nilgiris Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the State Government to provide cable car or rope way facility in the hill district.

A resolution passed in this regard at the annual general body meeting on Sunday said that a rope car facility between Doddabetta and Ooty Lake will boost tourism and increase revenue of those residents who were dependent on tourism for their livelihood.

Service

It also urged the Government to explore the possibility of providing a similar service between Mettupalayam and Ooty.

It will help in easy travel to the hill station and also serve as an alternative travel mode to various places.

The trade body had demanded helicopter service between Ooty and Coimbatore and Ooty and Bangalore.

This had been a long-pending demand of the public of the hill station.

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry should consider the residents’ demand and grant approval for the same.

It appealed to the Udhagamandalam Municipality to clean the Ootacamund Municipal Market, which was full of waste and turned out to be one of the dirtiest places in the hill station.

A drizzle was all that was required to make things worse.

The Municipality should initiate efforts to restore the Market as it was in the past — hygienic.

Parking

The Chamber appealed to the district administration to consider establishing a paid parking system in Kodapamund to regulate parking in Udhagamandalam during the peak season.

As a result of proper parking system, roads were jam packed.

The other resolutions included a skywalk from the PWD Guest House to the Botanical Garden, a flyover from Breeks School Junction to Stanes Motors to decongest Charring Cross, multi-storied parking lots, additional trains from Mettupalayam to Kochi and Bangalore and additional platforms in Mettupalayam.
