April 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - Karaikudi:

Use of e-resources in classrooms or in distance education has not diminished the role of teaching, said Prof. V. Manickavasagam, Registrar, Alagappa University.

Citing the use of e-resources in academic libraries, he suggested that libraries must be computerised/automated optimally, determining the usefulness, efficiency and effectiveness of e-resources.

He was addressing the two-day national conference on ‘Impact of electronic resources on teaching, learning and research: Issues and opportunities’, organised by the Central Library and the Directorate of Distance Education of Alagappa University here on Friday.

He said globalisation and innovation in technology had led to an increased use of e-resources in all spheres, including education. The e-resources component helped in developing and disseminating new curricula in e-format, distance learning and enabling better administration.

Dr. K. Parthasarathy, Professor and Head, Life-Long Learning, and Dr. S. Srinivasa Raghavan, Professor and Head, Library and Information Science, Bharathidasan University, addressed the conference. Dr. T.R. Gurumoorthy, Director, DDE, Alagappa University, and Dr. A. Thirunavukkarasu, Librarian, offered felicitations.
