Over 50 passengers including schoolchildren escaped unhurt when the driver of a bus lost control and the bus drifted off the road.
The incident took place when the TNSTC bus from Midalam was proceeding to Nagercoil near Paraseri during peak hours on Tuesday morning.
It was said that the bus drifted towards the left owing to brake failure and stopped after running amok into the thick vegetation on a private land.
As many as fifty passengers including school children were aboard the bus at the time of the incident. All the passengers alighted immediately and left for their destinations in another bus.
When contacted, a top TNSTC official told The Hindu that technical fault was the reason for the incident. As the festival season was over, all the depots were asked to undertake complete maintenance of buses. Apart from this, drivers were also being apprised of good driving habits on a rotation basis from Tuesday, the official added.
