Mobile tower issue: BSNL employees forming a human chain in Madurai on Thursday.

BSNL employees affiliated to various unions joined formed a human chain here on Thursday to condemn the Union government’s move to “weaken” the BSNL by de-linking mobile tower maintenance work from the parent company.

They said every attempt was made to weaken the company so as to benefit private telecom players. Despite objection raised by the unions to the Centre about its proposal to de-link mobile tower maintenance from the BSNL, it went ahead.

The Central government had a “hidden agenda” to give an impression to the public that the BSNL was making losses.

Though pay revision for BSNL employees had to be effected from January 1, 2017, the government was dithering in implementing it.

Despite stiff competition, the BSNL stood by its policies and served the people against several odds without giving false promises like some of the private players, the protesters said.
