A bridge will be constructed across South Pennar River to Thorappalli at a cost of Rs. 6 crore, said Collector V. Arun Roy on Friday.
Mr. Roy garlanded the bronze bust of statesman C. Rajagopalachari at his residence in Thorappalli on the occasion of his 132nd birth anniversary.
Later, at a meeting organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations, the Collector said that the construction of the bridge would be taken up in January. The sanction of fund from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development was expected at any time.
Paying rich tributes to Rajaji, Mr. Roy said he was a great statesman of the 20th century.
As a penchant writer, he wrote a book on Mahabharatha in a simple language even the children could understand.
The Collector announced that a special camp would be organised in Thorappalli to identify senior citizens for extending the Old Age Pension.
Prizes were distributed to school students who participated in the essay, oratorical competitions. As many as 66 beneficiaries were given assistance worth Rs. 25.40 lakh.
