Demanding hike in their wages, workers of brassware manufacturing units here staged demonstration in front of the Office of Deputy Commissioner of Labour at Palayamkottai on Friday.

The protestors said the wage-hike for brassware manufacturing units, which should have been implemented long back, was getting delayed owing to non-cooperation by owners. Hence, the owners of brassware manufacturing units should participate in the wage settlement talks to be held at the Office of Deputy Commissioner of Labour to arrive at an early amicable solution.

If the owners refuse to participate in the talks, the Department of Labour Welfare should initiate appropriate action against the erring unit owners.

Led by N. Ismail Sait, secretary of Nellai District General Workers’ Union, the protestors raised slogans to highlight their demands. Office-bearers of the Union V. Muthu, M. Sudalairaj and S.V. Balasubramanian addressed the gathering.
