‘Both Dravidian parties will be dependent on KMDK post election’

May 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - ERODE:

Neither DMK nor AIADMK will be able to form government on individual strength, and will have to depend on support of Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi, its general secretary E.R. Eashwaran said on Friday.

“KMDK’s support to any of the two parties will hinge on its commitment to develop Kongu region,” Mr. Eashwaran told mediapersons.

Kongu region had been neglected for the last 50 years under the rule of the Dravidian parties.

There has been no support from the parties for industrial growth or strengthening of irrigation network in the region.

The reason is that those who had been Chief Ministers were either from the other regions. Both the Dravidian parties were stymieing emergence of leadership from the Kongu region.

Stating that the AIADMK and DMK have started wooing voters with money, Mr. Eashwaran charged Election Commission with failure to curb the cash distribution. People must realise that receiving money for casting votes was tantamount to selling themselves.

Nevertheless, the fact that freebies and money alone cannot change the political course has become evident. Though there is disenchantment with AIADMK rule, it is not strong enough to put the party at a complete disadvantage.

Notwithstanding the opinion polls, there are indications that chances are even for both DMK and AIADMK, and KMDK’s support will be for the party that would agree to Kongunadu’s growth, Mr. Eashwaran said.
