Booklovers to undergo health check-up

Visitors to the book fair that opens in Perambalur on January 30 can undergo free basic medical tests.

Darez Ahamed, District Collector, told presspersons here on Thursday that sugar test, ECG, and blood pressure would be checked for the visitors. Separate timings had been allotted for students of schools and colleges in and around Perambalur to visit the book exhibition.

Ten per cent discount would be given for the books purchased at the exhibition. Hundials have been submitted to 6,900 students three months ago. Students can use the hundial collection to purchase books. They will be given special discount besides 10 per cent usual discount for the books purchased in the exhibition.

International film festival will be conducted for the children from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. every day from January 30 to February 8 as part of the book festival.

Murugan, Executive Committee member of Tamil Nadu Book Publishers and Sellers Association, said that 121 stalls would be put up and more than 90 publishers would take part in the exhibition. This is the fourth year book exhibition was conducted in Perambalur. During 2012, more than 54,000 people purchased books estimated at Rs. 28,81,626. In 2013, 1,20,000 people visited and purchased books estimated at Rs. 97 lakh. In 2014, there were 1.24 lakh visitors who purchased books estimated at Rs. 1.09 crore.
